In the world of Surfing, the sport’s administrators say they like to “Share the Stoke”. Komosion helped with this by creating the digital platform for this week’s Vissla Sydney Surf Pro competition and beach festival at iconic Manly Beach.
The event features surfers from some 20 countries including many of the best men and women surfers on the world championship tour but, as importantly, connects the community to the surf industry’s innovation, creativity and craftsmanship via a raft of back-of-the beach activations.
The website consists of live video feeds straight from Manly beach, video playlists, live scoreboards and leaderboards and the daily forecast at Manly including swell, wind and tides. Not only does the website focus on the surf events themselves, it also includes a schedule of festival events including markets, photographic explorations of beach culture and events for kids and charity.
The Naming Rights sponsor, Vissla, is a relatively new global surf retail brand which has brought to the beach world famous artists, surfboard shapers and “upcycle” events which repurpose discarded materials even – including an abandoned shipping container now used for its on beach merchandise store.
“One of our catch cries is making waste into want and using it in the ocean,” says former World Tour Surfer and Vissla sales and marketing consultant John Shimooka.
